Landscapes That Choose You
Every destination is chosen for its power to transform the way you see. These are not locations. They are worlds that Raphael has spent a lifetime earning access to, now opened for you.
Inaugural Expedition · Dates Forthcoming
Cappadocia, Türkiye
Ancient Stone, Living Light
Cappadocia is a landscape that should not exist. Millennia of volcanic eruption, wind, and water have carved a terrain of surreal beauty: towering fairy chimneys, honeycombed cliff faces, and valleys that glow rose gold at dawn and deep amber at dusk. It is a place that feels both ancient and otherworldly, as if the earth itself is a sculpture still being finished.
For equine photography, Cappadocia is entirely unclaimed territory. No major photographer has made this landscape their own in the way that the Camargue or Iceland have been documented. The wild and semi wild horses that roam its valleys are virtually unknown to the fine art world. This is a first mover opportunity to create a body of work that simply does not yet exist.
"The moment I saw horses moving between the fairy chimneys at dawn, I knew this was the place. No one has told this story yet. I am opening this world for others to live it alongside me."
The light in Cappadocia changes with a drama that few landscapes can match. Early mornings bring soft pink and gold tones that wrap around the rock formations. Midday reveals the sculptural depth of the terrain. And the evenings deliver long, warm shadows that give every contour of horse and stone a painterly quality that feels almost too beautiful to be real.
Best Light
April through June, September through November. Golden hour lasts longer during spring and autumn equinox periods.
Terrain
Volcanic rock valleys, cave dwellings, open plateaus. Moderate walking on uneven ground required for field positions.
The Horses
Semi wild herds roaming the valleys. Hardy, compact breeds adapted to the rocky terrain with striking temperaments.
Accommodation
Boutique cave hotels carved into the rock. Unique interiors, rooftop terraces overlooking the valleys, and exceptional local cuisine.
Cappadocia is our inaugural expedition. Inquiries are now open for this Grand tier experience.

Rajasthan, India
The Marwari: Royalty in Motion
The Marwari is among the rarest and most visually extraordinary horse breeds on Earth. Bred for centuries by the warrior kings of Rajasthan, these horses are recognised instantly by their distinctive inward curving ears that can rotate a full 180 degrees. Their movement is elegant, almost theatrical, carrying the bearing of an animal that has known palaces as naturally as deserts.
To photograph the Marwari is to photograph living history. These horses are inseparable from the architecture, the traditions, and the spiritual life of Rajasthan. They appear in royal processions, in ancient forts, and across the Thar Desert, always adorned with the same care and reverence they have received for centuries.
"There is no other breed that carries its cultural heritage so visibly. Every Marwari horse is a portrait of Rajasthan itself."
This expedition will work with local breeders, equestrian families, and cultural custodians who have preserved the Marwari bloodline through generations. Access is earned through relationships, not tourism, and those relationships have been built specifically for this journey.
Best Light
November through February. Winter light in Rajasthan is warm, low, and forgiving, with clear skies and minimal haze.
Terrain
Desert landscapes, ancient fortresses, palace courtyards, rural villages. Mix of structured and open air shooting locations.
The Culture
Deep equestrian heritage woven into daily life. Ceremonial dress, traditional tack, and centuries old breeding practices still actively maintained.
Accommodation
Heritage palace hotels and restored havelis. Authentic Rajasthani hospitality with curated experiences and traditional cuisine.
The Rajasthan expedition is confirmed for February 2027. Early inquiries are welcome.

Iceland
Fire, Ice, and Untamed Spirit
Iceland is a landscape of extremes. Glaciers carve through volcanic rock, black sand beaches meet crashing North Atlantic waves, and the sky shifts from silver overcast to sudden bursts of golden light that illuminate everything with an almost supernatural clarity. It is a place where the elements are always present, always shaping the mood of every frame.
The Icelandic horse is one of the purest breeds in the world, isolated on this island for over a thousand years. Small, powerful, and extraordinarily hardy, these horses move through their volcanic homeland with a confidence and grace that speaks to centuries of coexistence with one of the most demanding environments on Earth. Their thick manes, expressive faces, and distinctive tölt gait make them among the most photogenic equine subjects anywhere.
"Iceland strips everything back to essentials. The horse, the land, the light. Nothing else. That simplicity is where the most powerful images live."
An Iceland expedition offers the rare opportunity to photograph horses against landscapes that feel genuinely primordial. Black lava fields, steaming geothermal vents, moss covered plains, and coastlines that look like the edge of the world. Every location demands a different creative approach, and the constantly changing weather ensures that no two days are ever the same.
Best Light
June through August for midnight sun and extended golden hours. October for moody autumn tones and early northern lights potential.
Terrain
Volcanic plains, black sand beaches, glacier edges, highland meadows. Varied terrain requiring sturdy footwear and weather readiness.
The Horses
Icelandic breed, isolated for over 1,000 years. Known for five gaits, thick double coats, and remarkably expressive temperaments.
Accommodation
Design forward lodges and countryside guesthouses. Clean Scandinavian interiors with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
Iceland is in active planning. Register your interest to receive priority notification when dates are announced.

Camargue, France
White Horses of the Marshlands
The Camargue horse is perhaps the most iconic equine subject in photography. Born dark and turning white as they mature, these ancient horses have roamed the salt marshes and wetlands of southern France for thousands of years. They are the living emblem of this wild, flat, windswept landscape, and they move through it with a freedom and power that makes every encounter feel mythic.
The Camargue has been photographed before, certainly, but Raphael's approach is different. Rather than the familiar staged stampede through shallow water, this expedition will focus on the quieter, more intimate moments: a single horse standing in morning mist, a foal's first steps in the marsh, the way light catches a wet coat at the golden hour. The goal is to find what is still undiscovered in a landscape that many assume has already been fully documented.
"Everyone has seen the Camargue photograph of white horses charging through water. Almost no one has seen the Camargue at dawn, when a single horse stands in the mist and the whole world is silent. That is the image I want to find."
Working with the gardians, the traditional Camargue cowboys who manage the herds, this expedition provides access to private land and natural behaviour that tourist photography operations never reach. The result is an experience rooted in authenticity rather than spectacle.
Best Light
April through June and September through October. Spring offers lush green marshes and foaling season. Autumn brings softer light and migratory birds.
Terrain
Flat salt marshes, shallow lagoons, sandy beaches, and reed lined wetlands. Waterproof boots essential for field positions.
The Culture
The gardians maintain centuries old traditions of herding on horseback. Their way of life is inseparable from the landscape and the breed.
Accommodation
Charming mas (traditional Provençal farmhouses) and boutique lodges surrounded by the marshland. Exceptional southern French cuisine.
The Camargue expedition is in early planning. Register your interest to be among the first to know.
